LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MAKOS FOOTBALL PROGRAM MOVES FORWARD FOLLOWING HURRICANE ISAIAS
The Lighthouse Christian College Makos football program is working through the aftermath of Hurricane Isaias, which moved through the area on Friday, October 9, 2026, leaving significant damage to the college’s athletic facilities.
The Makos’ locker room area sustained extensive damage, while the field and surrounding athletic facilities also took a major hit from the powerful storm. The goalpost at the north end of the field was bent to the ground, and the visitor-side bleachers were twisted beyond repair. The scoreboard was completely blown off its supports, numerous trees were knocked down, and the practice field was left underwater.
On Saturday, Makos personnel began assessing the damage and recovering football equipment and other items that had been blown away from the locker room area. The recovery effort is ongoing as the college evaluates the extent of the damage and determines the next steps for the football program.
MAKOS COMMITTED TO FINISHING THE SEASON
On Monday morning at 10:00 a.m., Lighthouse Christian College leadership met to discuss the future of the football season. After careful consideration, college leadership determined that the best course of action was to continue the season.
With all conference games still ahead, the Makos remain focused on preparing for the challenges to come. The college is reaching out to several facilities in the surrounding area in hopes of securing alternate venues for its final two scheduled home games while repairs and recovery efforts continue.
STUDENT HOUSING AND PRACTICE PLANS
At this time, student housing remains without electrical power. Students will not be able to return to campus until power is restored and the necessary arrangements can be made for their safe return.
The current plan is for the Makos to resume football practice at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026, as they prepare for their first New South Athletic Conference game against Westgate Christian University. The matchup is currently scheduled as a home game, although arrangements may be affected by the damage to the campus facilities.
If power is restored sooner, the college plans to bring everyone back to campus and hold a team meeting with Head Coach Dave Wilson to discuss the path forward.
LOOKING AHEAD WITH FAITH AND DETERMINATION
Although the weekend brought unexpected challenges and significant damage, the Lighthouse Christian College community remains determined to move forward. The Makos look forward to returning to the field, reuniting with their teammates, and continuing their pursuit of a successful season.
The college also extends its thoughts and prayers to its students, their families, and the surrounding community as everyone begins the recovery process following Hurricane Isaias.
The road ahead may look different than expected, but the Makos remain committed to their season, their teammates, and the Lighthouse Christian College community.
